Here's two Jiddu Krishnamurti quotes on meditation

Trying to become something else

The very awareness of "what is" is a liberative process. So long as we are unaware of what we are and are trying to become something else, so long will there be distortion and pain. The very awareness of what I am brings about transformation and the freedom of understanding.

------------------------------------------------
I must love the very thing I am studying

The "what is" is what you are, not what you would like to be; it is not the ideal because the ideal is fictitious, but it is actually what you are doing, thinking, and feeling from moment to moment. "What is" is the actual, and to understand the actual requires awareness, a very alert, swift mind. But if we begin to condemn what is, if we begin to blame or resist it, then we shall not understand its movement. If I want to understand somebody, I cannot condemn him - I must observe, study him. I must love the very thing I am studying. If you want to understand a child, you must love and not condemn him. You must play with him, watch his movements, his idiosyncrasies, his ways of behaviour; but if you merely condemn, resist, or blame him, there is no comprehension of the child. Similarly, to understand what is, one must observe what one thinks, feels, and does from moment to moment. That is the actual. Any other action, any ideal or ideological action is not the actual - it is merely a wish, a fictitious desire to be something other than what is.
So to understand what is requires a state of mind in which there is no identification or condemnation, which means a mind that is alert and yet passive...

Shunryu Suzuki November 30 1966

""Dogen-zenji said, “You should establish your practice in your delusion.”  Even though you think you are in delusion but there is your pure mind.  So, if you realize the pure mind in your delusion that is practice. If your have the pure mind, the essential mind, in your delusion – delusion will vanish.  It cannot stay when you say, this is delusion.  He will be very much ashamed of it.  He will run away.  So you should establish your practice in your delusion.  To have delusion is practice.  “To attain enlightenment before you realize it.”  So you will attain enlightenment before you realize it.  Even though you do not realize it, you have it.  So, when you say ‘This is delusion’ that is enlightenment.  But when you try to expel the delusion it will stay and your mind will become busier and busier to cope with the delusion you have.  That is not so good.
Just say, ‘this is delusion’.  That is enough and don’t be bothered by it – ‘oh, this is just delusion’.  When you see delusion you have your true mind – calm, peaceful mind.  When you start to cope with it you will be involved in delusion.  So, when you sit, whether you attain enlightenment or not – just to sit is enough.  When you try to attain enlightenment, then you have big burden in your mind.  So your mind will not be clear enough to see things as they are.""

the baboon won't let go of the pebble

A few years ago, I saw this National Geographic type of show where a hunter in Africa or Asia tricked a baboon into trapping itself.  I thought this was amazing.  The hunter found a huge termite mound (i think that's what it was), and put a pebble into one of the small holes.  The baboon saw this, and when the hunter got far enough away, the baboon went over and stuck his hand in the hole grabbing the pebble.  Only, its fist was too big to pull out with the pebble in hand.  So, the baboon was stuck.  As the hunter approaches, the baboon struggles to become free, but cannot do so....even though all it has to do is let go.  The hunter had tricked the baboon into trapping itself.  This is a powerful analogy for us about "clinging."  Also, it's about letting go.

So, anyway.....i thought this was a good analogy to share.  I write to myself as much, if not more than anyone. Cheers!!

Alan Watts & Chögyam Trungpa - Right Here And Now

At the beginning of time, there was just that moment.  There was NO past yet.....therefore, the past is a result of the present moment.  At the beginning of time, it was now [then], and its still NOW.

Dogen said, "Time goes from present to the past."   It's a revolutionary way of approaching life.....and quite a challenge in trying something like this in our culture.  Cheers!!!

the oil spill

Just had to vent a little bit about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  It is such a shame of what's going to happen to the wildlife there.  We forget that our relationship to the land, to the water, to the oceans..we are connected to what happens.  When we don't respect our land, our environment, we don't respect ourselves....and the land/environment won't take care of us back.  The land is a garden, and if we don't take care of it........it won't produce what we need...whether its fruit/veggies...or oxygen...or fish....or coral....or important chemicals to treat cancers, among other diseases.  If we don't take care of it.....we aren't taking care of ourselves.

I don't have much more to say, but if you do, please share your thoughts.  Thanks.
